The most colourful, inclusive party in town is set to return to Swindon once again after taking a break last year. The LQBTQ festival will be staged in Old Town on Saturday 10th August for its 11th year.
Swindon and Wiltshire Pride have been awarded a grant from the National Lottery, which will help towards the main event in 2019. After an extensive application, and meeting all of the requirements , the National Lottery was able to award a grant of £10,000.
Chairman, Kristian Wheeler, said “We used our year off to work more closely with the community and undertook several projects with the support of local businesses, including the instillation of the Rainbow Walk at The Wyvern Theatre. An important part as a committee is preventing social isolation. We do this by bringing the community together at our monthly fundraising events as well as our main Pride event, this is an extremely important part of what we do.”
The event will be held in Swindon at the Town Gardens and will kick off with a Parade that will start just after 11am making its way through the old town. The Old Town Gardens will be filled with a burst of colour and party atmosphere, centred around the Bowl Stage and Bandstand. There will be a Community stage showcasing local talent, a family zone, a shopping zone, and a craft zone which is new for 2019.
The grant from the National Lottery will go a long way to support the event but Pride still needs support from local and national businesses to sponsor the event. There are many Sponsorship packages which local businesses can take advantage of to show how inclusive and diverse they are as well as supporting a wonderful local event.
